After a suspicious payment

Where to report, and what each route does

A support request, a complaint, and a crime report serve different purposes.

U.S. consumer guidance · Reviewed October 27, 2026

Your provider or financial institution

Use its official app or site for transaction support, security issues, and claims. A report to this educational site would not notify your provider.

Government reports

ReportFraud.ftc.gov accepts scam reports. IC3.gov is the FBI’s online-crime reporting route. IdentityTheft.gov helps organize identity-theft recovery. Filing does not guarantee a personal investigation or refund.

An unresolved financial-service complaint

The CFPB’s complaint portal routes financial-service complaints to companies or other agencies as appropriate. Keep your provider case reference and relevant correspondence.
