Payment guide · Bank-to-bank payments

Zelle:
pay with a clearer picture.

Know who you are paying. A familiar bank app does not verify a seller’s promises.

Before you send

  • Confirm the recipient through a contact method you already trust.
  • For an unfamiliar seller, consider a checkout method with eligible purchase protection.
  • Pause if a caller tells you to move money to keep it safe.

Understand the limits

Zelle says a payment to an enrolled recipient cannot be canceled after authorization. That is different from whether a fraud or scam claim may qualify for reimbursement. Ask your bank to review the facts; Zelle says certain imposter scams qualify.

If something goes wrong

Report a suspicious Zelle payment directly to the bank or credit union you used. Use your banking app or the number on your card. Explain who initiated the transfer and whether credentials were obtained by deception.
