Handle overpayments through the original channel

An apparent extra payment can become a request for a separate outgoing transfer.

U.S. consumer guidance · Reviewed October 27, 2026

Recognize the request

A buyer claims to have paid too much and wants the difference sent to another person or app. A payment notification may be fake, or the original payment may later be challenged.

Use a documented process

Verify the transaction in your own account. Ask official support how to handle the original payment and use the provider’s appropriate refund process when advised. Do not improvise a separate transfer.

Make the policy clear

Record the original transaction reference, your support inquiry, and any authorized refund. Staff should know that urgency from a customer does not override payment verification.
